Wednesday, August 22, will certainly be a date to remember in the annals of the Greek Theater of Taormina: at 21.30, in fact, will converge in the ancient cavea of ​​the city of the centaur some of the greatest artists in the world to remember one of the most beloved and famous tenors of the history of the work, our great fellow citizen of the hinterland of Catania, Giuseppe Di Stefano, on the tenth anniversary of his death.

Pippo Di Stefano, a native of Motta Sant’Anastasia, was the historical partner of another legendary figure of the opera theater, the American soprano of Italian national Greek origin, Maria Callas, with whom he created evenings that have remained forever engraved in the history of opera theater for the attainment of attica beauty never more equaled. This is the very rich parterre, for the first time in Taormina, of extraordinary artists who will be awarded during the evening: Raffaella Angeletti, Ezio Bosso, Giovanna Casolla, Fiorenza Cossotto, Maria Dragoni, Elisabetta Fiorillo, Renato Francesconi, Cecilia Gasdia, Nicola Martinucci, Alberto Mastromarino, Rudy Park, Giuseppina Piunti, Ramona Tullumani and the Chamber Opera in Warsaw for the “Armide” Opera.
On the same evening, the Golden Opera Special Prize of the International Opera Awards (the Oscars of the Lyric) will be conferred to Giuseppe Di Stefano: an event in the event, anticipation of the 2018 edition of the most prestigious award to the protagonists of the world lyric, conceived by Alfredo Troisi. They wanted to make their presence felt all the most important institutions, through patronage, medals and awards. Patronage also from the Union of Lombarda Municipalities of Valletta (associated municipalities: the valley of Brianza and Santa Maria Hoè), the Municipality of Motta Santa Anastasia, the RAI, the Chamber Opera of Warsaw, the Verona Foundation for the Arena with the Oscar della Lirica. To embellish the celebrations for the 10th anniversary of the death of the great tenor of the town, will be the magnificent sculptures that the multi-talented artist Turi Azzolina, has created especially as a prize for the kermesse.

In the second part of the evening, the poignant music of Cavalleria Rusticana will thrill the audience, through the voices of some of the greatest interpreters of the mascagni jewel with a prestigious cast that sees Giovanna Casolla deployed in the role of Santuzza, Rudy Parck as Turiddu, Alberto Mastromarino (Afio), Elisabetta Fiorillo (Lucia) and Giuseppina in the role of Lola. Accompanying the cast are two artistic ensembles of absolute international value, returning from the engraving of -Stabat Mater- by Gioacchino Rossini for the important magazine “Amadeus”: the Calabria Philharmonic Orchestra and the Sicilian Lyrical Choir that will celebrate the 10 years of artistic career.

The evening will be presented by Enrico Stinchelli, former creator and presenter of -La Barcaccia-, broadcast by Rai Radio 3 which has been involved in opera for years and will dedicate a large special to the event. Video Mapping and Choreography will be curated by Claudio Mantegna, lighting design Lorenzo Tropea. The evening will be attended by dancer Andrea Mazzurco and Piccolo Coro D.B. City of Taormina, directed by Ivan Lo Giudice. Master concert player and conductor will be Amos Talmon, choirmaster Francesco Costa. Production manager Alberto Munafò Siragusa. As evidence of the international echo of the event, the evening will be filmed and broadcast by the state television of Poland TVP.
